I saw you dancing quietly

In the shadows of the dark.

I saw you dancing brightly

In the moonbeams of the park.

I watched you quietly as you danced

    Beneath the trembling trees

With other tiny fairy folk

    Dancing on the breeze.

I saw you dancing joyously

    Upon a rainbow’s beams,

Casting down your twinkling lights

     Upon those chattering streams.

I watched enchanted as you moved

With lightness and with grace –

But not one of all you fairy folk,

    Ever saw MY face.

I saw you dancing cautiously

    Where humans fear to go.

I saw you dancing fleetingly

    Upon the falling snow.

I watched you as you danced with joy

    Upon the bright sunbeams -

But I sometimes think that fairy folk

    Dance only in our dreams.
